About Commonwealth Canada

Commonwealth Dynamics Inc. (CDI) was founded by David Kanner in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. Over the following decades, the company grew into an international engineering and construction organization specializing in engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) services for industrial chimneys, stacks, and other tall structures.

On May 4, 1994, Commonwealth Dynamics Limited (CDL) was established as a Nova Scotia–registered corporation in Canada. The company was founded by David Kanner, who also owned CDI and its subsidiary, Commonwealth Constructors Inc. (CCI).

By the early 2000s, CDI had expanded its global presence and became the parent company of five international subsidiaries, delivering EPC services for industrial stacks and chimneys on projects around the world.

CDL secured a major multi-year EPC contract from Vale Canada Limited for the Clean AER Project at the Copper Cliff Smelter Complex in Sudbury, Ontario. During the same year, Dominion Global Access USA acquired Commonwealth Dynamics Inc. (CDI), International Chimney Corporation, and Karrena Corporation, bringing together three established U.S.-based chimney companies.

In the spring of 2018, CDL mobilized CCI’s specialized chimney jumpform equipment and experienced field supervision team to Vale’s Smelter Complex to support the construction phase of the Clean AER Project.

Beginning in 2021, CDL expanded its operations across Canada, broadening its services and strengthening its presence in the tall structures industry.

Today, Commonwealth Canada provides a comprehensive range of engineering, construction, inspection, maintenance, repair and demolition services for industrial stacks, chimneys, silos, and other critical infrastructure across Canada.
